Germany's Leroy Sane leaves national team for birth of child - sources

Manchester City winger Leroy Sane has left the Germany squad because his girlfriend is due to give birth, sources have told ESPN FC.

The 22-year-old left the camp on Friday with the German Football Association citing "private reasons".

But sources told ESPN FC that Sane was allowed to leave the team hotel to be with his girlfriend, the American model Candice Brook, who is expected to give birth to their first child imminently.

Sane was recalled by manager Joachim Low after being surprisingly left out of the squad for the World Cup in the summer.

He was an 83rd-minute substitute in the 0-0 draw with France on Thursday in the UEFA Nations League and will now miss Sunday's friendly with Peru.

"Following discussions with head coach Joachim Low, Leroy Sane has left the team hotel in Munich for private reasons and will not be available," the German FA said in a statement.

Sane last started a competitive game on Aug. 5, when he came off at half-time of Manchester City's Community Shield victory over Chelsea, and he was dropped from City's matchday squad in the victory over Newcastle United on Sept. 1.

He has won 11 caps for Germany since his debut in a friendly against France on Nov. 13, 2015.
