Fernandinho scored the 11th own goal of the 2018 World Cup, which is a tournament record. The 1998 (six OGs) and 2014 (five OGs) editions are in second and third place in that list. Fernandinho is only the second Brazilian score an own goal at World Cups -- Marcelo opened Croatia's scoring in the 2014 World Cup opener, which Brazil went on to win 3-1.

Belgium have scored against CONMEBOL opposition for the first time in a World Cup game in 28 years, having last done so in the course of a 3-1 win over Uruguay in the 1990 World Cup's group stages. Since then, both their matches against CONMEBOL teams -- knockout games against Brazil (2002 round of 16) and Argentina (2014 quarterfinals) -- were lost 2-0 and 1-0, respectively.

Brazil played their 109th World Cup game, joining Germany for the record for most matches in World Cup history. This will be the first World Cup in 12 years, and just the fifth overall, with all four semi-finalists from one confederation. Italy, France, Germany and Portugal were the semi-finalists at the 2006 World Cup, the last time this had happened. All other instances of four teams from the same confederations in the last four also involved UEFA teams -- Italy 1982, England 1966 and Italy 1934.

9

Belgium are just the ninth team in World Cup history to win* five successive matches in a single World Cup tournament, though the feat has been achieved 11 times. Brazil lead the list with seven wins in 2002 (and six in 1970), while Argentina won five consecutive games in both 1986 and 2014. Both Netherlands and Spain registered six successive wins in 2010, while other teams with five victories on the bounce are Germany (2014), Italy (1990), Poland (1974) and England (1966).

Thibaut Courtois made nine saves for Belgium, taking his tournament tally up to 18. Only Guillermo Ochoa of Mexico, who were knocked out in the round of 16 by Brazil, has had more saves in the 2018 World Cup with 24.
