A wild day in World Cup Group F: How social media reacted to Germany's elimination

At the start of play on Wednesday Germany and Mexico look well poised to advance -- as expected -- out of Group F.

The Germans just needed to beat South Korea -- who had lost both of their first two games -- to punch their ticket to the knockout rounds while Mexico needed just a draw and could even advance with a small defeat to Sweden.

Neither of those thing happened and after 90+ minutes of game time, about two hours of regular time and a whole bunch of twists and turns, Sweden's 3-0 win over Mexico and South Korea's 2-0 shocker over Germany meant Sweden and Mexico went through while reigning world champions Germany were eliminated.

Here's how social media reacted to two of the wildest hours of football you will see and the shocking elimination of Germany, the advancement of Sweden and the survival of Mexico.

It looks like some folks in Brazil were quite happy with South Korea's victory.

Due to the 3-0 scoreline of the Mexico game, Mexico's hopes came down to South Korea securing at least a draw. Here is how Mexico City reacted at the final whistle.

The fans inside the stadium in Ekaterinburg were also well aware of what was going on in Kazan between Germany and South Korea our Tom Marshall tells us.

Judging from this treatment on Korean received outside the stadium, the Mexican fans will be more than happy to treat any South Koreans in Ekaterinburg to drinks later on this evening.

Even in defeat, the Germans showed real class.

Don't think there were too many with that ticket guys.

Our German correspondent Raf Honigstein tries to sum up Germany's disappointing exit.

Something, something... "don't count your chickens before they hatch"

How bout some Swedish love considering they were the ones that won the group!

A couple of their sports "Kings" have already sent their congratulations...

Swedish football legend Henrik Larsson:

and New York Rangers and Swedish ice hockey goalie Henrik Lundqvist:

Mexican and Swedish fans come together to celebrate Germany's exit.

More Germany woe anyone?

Some clubs were very excited for their players.

Just wow...

Good point.

Graham Zusi will never pay for a beer in Mexico... think we can add Kim Young-Gwon to that list.

How about we check in at the South Korean embassy in Mexico... yep looks like Mexicans are still big fans of South Korea.

The reality has started to sink in for some of Germany's players:
