In all honesty, you would probably fancy a France B-team to do pretty well in this group. The amount of talent Didier Deschamps has to choose from can surely only be held back by Deschamps himself, a limited manager who nonetheless has won himself a new contract ahead of this tournament.
They will surely top the group, and second place looks likely to be a scrap between the rest. Denmark are a solid collective with one outstanding talent in Christian Eriksen, but Australia are still looking for a manager after Ange Postecoglou's resignation and Peru are a bit of an unknown quantity.
Predicted finish
1. France -- This is a side who could, in theory, afford to leave Kylian Mbappe on the bench. With Paul Pogba enjoying a great season and brilliance all around him, they're among the favourites for the tournament, never mind this group.
2. Peru -- The remaining three teams in this group are pretty close, so why not go with the wild card? Peru are at their first World Cup since 1982 but were impressive enough in qualifying to make you think they could do well.
3. Denmark -- Plenty will depend on Eriksen. The collective is strong, but they will have to rely on the Tottenham playmaker for most of their creativity. That might not be enough.
4. Australia -- An unknown quantity simply because nobody knows who their manager will be, much less how their players will adapt to him. That they scraped through thanks to goals from Tim Cahill, 38 next week, tells you plenty.

Must-see match: Peru vs. Denmark
If we assume that France should win the group at something close to a canter, the debate then becomes who will go through with them. This game could well decide that, and it being the first match for either side arguably makes it even more crucial, as it will mean the losers will have to face France knowing they will need a result. Denmark might have the advantage there, as they face France last and could benefit from an under-strength side if Deschamps' men are already through, but it's close to a toss of a coin.
X factor: Jefferson Farfan
It might or might not be a significant factor, but you have to at least consider the possibility that Peru's star forward, Farfan, might have an advantage because he plays his club football for Lokomotiv Moscow.
So much of success at World Cups is how teams and players adapt to alien conditions, so having played in Russia since the start of this year could give Farfan an edge.
