Louis van Gaal open to job with 'big English club' after Man United stint

Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has said he would consider a return to management if he received an offer from a "big" Premier League club.

Van Gaal, 66, has been out of work since leaving Old Trafford in 2016 following two seasons in charge.

The former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach said he is unlikely to manage another club side but he could be tempted to return to England.

He said on Fox Sports: "I will probably not manage a club anymore. I would make one exception -- if a big English club comes for me, then I would think about it."

Speaking off camera, he added in De Telegraaf that if he were to return he "would like to challenge Manchester United."

Van Gaal has won league titles in the Eredivisie, La Liga and Bundesliga, as well as the FA Cup during his spell at United. He also led Netherlands to the semifinals of the 2014 World Cup.

He was linked with the Belgium job after his dismissal at Old Trafford, but eventually lost out to former Everton manager Roberto Martinez.

Since being replaced with Jose Mourinho, Van Gaal has been working as a television pundit and was at Anfield for United's 0-0 draw with Liverpool in October.
