Premier League midweek team news: Injuries and suspensions update

WEDNESDAY'S GAMES

SOUTHAMPTON VS. LEICESTER

SOUTHAMPTON: Cedric Soares could return from hamstring trouble, but will still be assessed further ahead of the St Mary's encounter. Boss Mauricio Pellegrino could mix up his selection following Sunday's 1-1 home draw with Arsenal to combat the festive fixture congestion.

LEICESTER: Shinji Okazaki could feature from the start as Claude Puel returns to St Mary's for the first time since he was dismissed by Saints in the summer. Robert Huth (ankle) and Matty James (Achilles) remain out but Puel is hopeful the pair will soon be available as they step up their respective recoveries.

LIVERPOOL VS. WEST BROM

LIVERPOOL: Adam Lallana has returned to full training but he will not be in contention. Defenders Joel Matip (muscle injury) and Alberto Moreno (ankle) will also miss the game with a number of other players carrying knocks from Sunday's Merseyside derby. Jurgen Klopp is set to make changes again, however, with Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino due to start having been rested at the weekend.

WEST BROM: Craig Dawson could return after missing the last seven games with a knee problem, and he may replace Allan Nyom after Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Swansea. Chris Brunt recovered from a thigh injury to feature in Wales but Gareth Barry (thigh), James Morrison (Achilles) and Nacer Chadli (hip) remain sidelined while Matt Phillips is a doubt with a hamstring problem.

MAN UNITED: Paul Pogba continues to be absent for through suspension and Marcos Rojo is a doubt. Captain Michael Carrick and defender Eric Bailly remain on the sidelines. Marouane Fellaini is pushing for a return after a knee complaint, while defender Rojo will be assessed after sustaining a cut to his head in the derby defeat to Manchester City.

BOURNEMOUTH: Adam Smith is available again following suspension and Harry Arter could come back into contention having been an unused substitute in the 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace. Defender Tyrone Mings is to see a specialist after suffering a problem in his recovery from a back problem. Goalkeeper Adam Federici (knee) is back in light training for the Cherries, while defender Brad Smith (hip) also continues his rehabilitation.

SWANSEA: Wayne Routledge is a fitness doubt due to muscle tightness after making only his second league start of the season in Saturday's win against West Brom. Federico Fernandez is in contention to return in defence after missing four games following the death of his father.

MAN CITY: The Premier League leaders will be without captain Vincent Kompany, who was withdrawn at half-time during Sunday's derby win at Manchester United with a muscular injury -- but the club are hopeful the problem is not serious. Fellow defenders John Stones (hamstring) and Benjamin Mendy (knee) also remain on the sidelines.

TOTTENHAM VS. BRIGHTON

TOTTENHAM: Tottenham have no fresh injury concerns. Davinson Sanchez is suspended while Toby Alderweireld (hamstring) and Victor Wanyama (knee) both remain sidelined. Danny Rose and Serge Aurier could be rotated in as full-backs and Erik Lamela is in contention to start.

NEWCASTLE VS. EVERTON

NEWCASTLE: Rafael Benitez has no fresh injury concerns with Paul Dummett his only senior absentee, as the left-back is working his way back from a hamstring problem. Dummett played an hour for the club's under-23s on Friday and while he is close to a return, the game will come too soon for him.

EVERTON: Phil Jagielka played the last seven minutes of Sunday's Merseyside derby after a three-match absence while Michael Keane has managed just one 10-minute substitute appearance during that time and did not get off the bench at Anfield. But both are fully fit again and one or both could return. Winger Yannick Bolasie played half an hour for the under-23s on Monday as he steps up his comeback from a year out with a knee injury but is not ready for first-team action yet.
