Premier League PFA Team of the Year Alternative XI: Ederson, Firmino included

The PFA Premier League team of the year is out. But which players can consider themselves unlucky not to have made the final XI?

GK: Ederson. Surely the player more than any other who turned City around. His passing and distribution mark him out, and would be an easy choice but for David De Gea.

RB: Cesar Azpilicueta. The one shining light from Chelsea's terrible Premier League title defence and the one player in the squad who looks like he wants to fight for every ball.

CB: James Tarkowski. Quite the season for the 26-year-old, whose performances were recognised with a senior England call up. Taking Burnley into Europe would crown it.

CB: Jamaal Lascelles. A commanding presence at the back for Newcastle, it's easy to see why the 24-year-old is being compared to John Terry.

LB: Andrew Robertson. For all of Liverpool's attacking prowess, it's the defensive solidity and tenacity that Robertson brings at left-back that means they no longer have to play James Milner there.

CM: Aaron Mooy. It didn't take long to see why Huddersfield moved quickly to snap up the Australian from Manchester City -- vision and excellence across the board has helped the minnows to stay up.

CM: Pascal Gross. Another to have had a major impact in keeping his side away from the relegation battle. Not many would have heard of him when Brighton signed him from FC Ingolstadt 04. They have now.

CM: Fernandinho. Not in the headlines for what he does, but City would be sunk without him in central midfield. The N'Golo Kante of this season.

FW: Leroy Sane/Raheem Sterling. Both players can consider themselves unlucky to have missed out to Sergio Aguero in the final vote. Without their goals and assists, City wouldn't have dominated like they did. We can't separate them.

FW: Son Heung-Min. The South Korean has made the wide berth at Tottenham his own this season with some fine displays. Will always play second fiddle to Harry Kane but he has scored some very important goals.

FW: Roberto Firmino. Redefining the striking role to an extent as he's the first line of defence, an all-round team player and he's also chipped in with his share of goals too.
