Harry Kewell set for first managerial job at Crawley Town - sources

Former Liverpool and Australia winger Harry Kewell is poised to become the new manager of English League Two side Crawley Town.

According to ESPN sources, the 38-year-old is hot favourite to replace outgoing Dermot Drummy in charge of the Sussex-based club, and could be appointed next week.

It would be a first managerial position for Kewell, who left his role as Watford under-23 coach in April.

Crawley Town finished 19th on the 24-team League Two table in the 2016-17 season, winning just one of their last 14 games.

Kewell, who retired as a player three years ago, spoke of his love for coaching in an Aug. 2015 interview with ESPN FC, soon after joining Watford.

"I'm loving it... I'm falling in love with coaching straight away," Kewell said. "It's hard work, you have to get your sessions and tactics right but I'm absolutely enjoying it."

The Sydney-born forward, who played in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, won Champions League and FA Cup medals with Liverpool, despite an injury-riddled five years at Anfield.

Last December, when receiving an Australian award for his lifetime contribution to football, Kewell declared that his ultimate coaching ambition was to become the manager of Liverpool.

"I'm a big dreamer. You might as well go to the top. You want to dream big, you dream big," Kewell said.
