Man United, Southampton, Brighton all reach FA Cup quarterfinals

Two goals from Romelu Lukaku ensured Manchester United saw off Huddersfield to win 2-0 and book their place in the FA Cup quarterfinals.

Much of the talk pregame was dominated by the absence of Paul Pogba, who missed the game through illness after Jose Mourinho had, a day earlier, played down reports of the midfielder's desire to leave the club.

Lukaku opened the scoring in the third minute after a neat through ball by Mata, and he added a second in the 55th minute following good link-up play with Alexis Sanchez.

Juan Mata scored shortly before the interval but saw his goal controversially ruled out following an intervention from the video assistant referee.

Brighton comfortably progressed to the FA Cup quarterfinals at the expense of Coventry with a 3-1 win.

The game was delayed by 15 minutes by train issues but that didn't seem to affect Brighton's record signing Jurgen Locadia, who scored on his debut for the club with his first touch after a low cross from Anthony Knockaert on the right wing.

Connor Goldson extended Brighton's advantage on 34 minutes, heading home from a Markus Suttner set-piece and Leonardo Ulloa headed a third on 61 minutes, his first goal since returning to the club from Leicester.

Jonson Clarke-Harris notched a consolation for Coventry in the 77th minute.

Southampton will join Brighton in Saturday night's draw for the last eight after seeing off West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.

Wesley Hoedt opened the scoring from James Ward-Prowse's corner on 11 minutes with his first goal for the club.

Dusan Tadic strengthened their hold on 56 minutes after good work from Guido Carrillo, but three minutes later Salomon Rondon pulled one back for the hosts with a volley from the edge of the box.

There was little to report from the early game in which Carlos Carvalhal returned to former club Sheffield Wednesday, but his Swansea side could only play out a goalless draw in a game of few chances.

They will have to try again at the Liberty Stadium in a week and a half.
