Mohamed Salah drops cryptic hint on Egypt future

Mohamed Salah may have dropped a hint that he's set to continue his Egypt career amidst rumours that the Liverpool forward is set to call time on the national side after their miserable World Cup campaign.

Salah's Egypt future has been the subject of discussion following the Pharaohs' dire World Cup showing.

However, a tweet posted by the forward, who signed a new five-year contract with Liverpool on Monday, may indicate that he'll continue his international career.

"Some may think it's over, but it isn't over," he wrote on his @MoSalah handle on Sunday. "There needs to be change."

Salah's comments may represent a thinly-veiled swipe at the Egyptian Football Association in light of various controversial incidents that accompanied the Pharaohs' campaign in Russia.

Before the tournament, Salah was embroiled in a row over image rights with the FA, while since Egypt's elimination, he was reportedly unhappy with criticism received after he was pictured with controversial Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

According to the Independent, these flashpoints prompted Salah to reconsider his international future with Egypt.

The EFA subsequently released a statement which dismissed the suggestion that the attacker was primed to end his international career.

"We were always informed by Salah when he takes any decisions," read the statement, as per CNN.

"We spend the whole day together and he has never discussed this issue with any of the delegation's members."

The 26-year-old recovered from a shoulder injury sustained in the Champions League final to feature twice for the Pharaohs in Russia, having missed their opening fixture against Uruguay.

He netted twice, but wasn't able to prevent the North African giants from falling at the first hurdle after losing all three of their group-stage matches.

While it's not clear what the 'change' specified by Salah in his tweet refers to, there has already been some overhaul at the EFA since the disastrous World Cup campaign, with the association opting to sever ties with head coach Hector Cuper in the aftermath of the tournament.
