The Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) has offered a job to the member of Croatia's coaching staff sacked for dedicating his country's World Cup victory over Russia to the people of Ukraine.
Ognjen Vukojevic, a coaching assistant and former Croatia international, posted a video on social media in which he and defender Domagoj Vida dedicated the win to Ukraine.
Ukraine has a long-running political conflict with Russia, which centres on the disputed territory of Crimea, and Vukojevic said on the video: "This victory is for Dynamo [Kiev, his former club] and Ukraine."
The FFU has offered Vukojevic employment and said it was willing to pay the fines imposed on him and Vida by FIFA for the video.
"We hold a clearly expressed position of supporting our friends," FFU president Andrei Paveloko told reporters. "We have offered both legal and financial support for Ognjen and Vida.
"I personally, as well as the FFU management, have made a decision to pay off Ognjen's pending fine and offer him a job with the FFU."
Vida, also a former Dynamo Kiev player, said in a statement following the posting of the video: "It was definitely no political message, but a simple thank you for all the support from Ukraine, where Vukojevic and I spent a number of years."
