Colombia's Jose Pekerman won't coach in friendlies amid contract dispute

Colombia asked under-20s coach Arturo Reyes to lead the team in September friendlies against Venezuela and Argentina after talks with coach Jose Pekerman on a new contact stalled.

The Colombian football federation said on Friday that Reyes will coach the team against Venezuela in Miami on Sept. 7 and against Argentina in New Jersey four days later.

Pekerman, from Argentina, has been in charge of Colombia since January 2012, but his future has been uncertain since they bowed out of the World Cup in the round of 16 by losing to England on penalties.

Ramon Jesurun, the president of the Colombian football federation, said at a recent news conference that the organisation would continue to negotiate with Pekerman, and "based on what happens, the executive committee will begin making decisions."

Former Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio, who is from Colombia, has been heavily linked to take over from Pekerman should he leave his post. Osorio opted not to remain with El Tri when offered a new contract after the World Cup.
