Manchester United comeback led by Juan Mata and Anthony Martial 8/10 vs. Chelsea

Manchester United were seconds away from their first win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge since 2012 but in the end were forced to settle for a point.

Jose Mourinho's team dominated the second half but a lapse in concentration at the end cost two points -- and prompted a melee on the touchline after the United manager took exception to the Chelsea celebrations.

The manner of the late goal -- a hopeful ball into the penalty area with time running out -- will upset Mourinho, but the result is at least a step in the right direction after a disappointing start to the season.

Positives

The response. Again. United looked dead and buried at half-time against Newcastle and although the first half here wasn't quite as bad, they were still second best. For the second game in a row, Mourinho's team bounced back in the second half. If nothing else, this is not a team who look like they are waiting for their manager to get the sack.

Negatives

United were poor in the fist half and they were lucky to do in at half-time just 1-0 down. Mourinho will not be happy that Chelsea's goal came from a set piece -- it's the fifth time that has happened in just 12 games so far this season and something that needs fixed quickly if United are going to stop giving opposing teams a head start.

Manager rating out of 10

-- Mourinho would have been justified in making changes at half-time but was proved right in sticking to his guns. Two of his gambles -- picking Juan Mata and Anthony Martial -- paid off and the pair were partly responsible for turning the game on its head in the second half. Had to be stopped from charging down the tunnel after a member of Chelsea's backroom staff who had celebrated in front of him.

Player ratings (1-10; 10 = best. Players introduced after 70 minutes get no rating)

GK David De Gea, 7 -- He could no nothing about Antonio Rudiger's opener but made a great low save from N'Golo Kante in the second half to keep the score at 1-0. Unlucky to concede late after making a fantastic point blank save from Rudiger before Ross Barkley scored.

DF Ashley Young, 6 -- Had a busy afternoon trying to look after Eden Hazard but held his own. Had a few nervous moments in the first half and was booked for a challenge on the Belgian, but it was a compliment to Young that Hazard didn't look like the Premier League's best player.

DF Luke Shaw, 7 -- Fresh from signing a new five-year deal on Thursday he was good again, as he has been for most of the season. Left on his own in the penalty area when Chelsea score their stoppage time equaliser.

DF Chris Smalling, 7 -- Tasked with with taking on Alvaro Morata in the physical battle at centre-back and won it. No surprise when Morata was replaced with Olivier Giroud with Chelsea chasing an equaliser. Might feel he could have done better with the ball into the box that led to Chelsea's late goal

DF Victor Lindelof, 6 -- Chris Smalling took most of the responsibility for dealing with Morata but when the Swede was called into action he didn't do much wrong until he went missing for Chelsea's late equaliser.

MF Nemanja Matic, 6 -- Booked early on for a four on Hazard and from then on looked like a walking red card. The Serbian was much better in the second half and did well to help tame Hazard without picking up a second booking.

MF Paul Pogba, 6 -- The Frenchman's first meaningful contribution was to lose Rudiger from a corner and allow the defender to give Chelsea the lead after 21 minutes. He was much better in the second half -- driving forward from midfield - like many of his teammates.

MF Juan Mata, 8 -- Started as the No. 10 behind Romelu Lukaku, a rarity since his move to United after thriving there during his time at Chelsea. Made Martial's first goal with clever cross to the back post after his snap shot was saved and had a hand in the second with a run down the right and a well-timed pass inside.

FW Anthony Martial, 8 -- He had barely touched the ball before equalising early in the second half. It was a lovely touch to control a difficult ball before smashing his finish past Kepa Arrizabalaga. His second finish was just as emphatic. Two chances, two goals.

FW Marcus Rashford, 6 -- Worked hard up and down the right and helped Ashley Young double up on Eden Hazard. Didn't have much joy going forward until he picked up Mata's pass and brilliantly spotted Martial for the Frenchman to score the winner.

FW Romelu Lukaku, 6 -- The striker did a lot of running for little reward. His one chance was a header that he had to stretch for in the first half but was clever enough to leave Rashford's pass for Martial in the build up to the winner.

Substitutes

MF Ander Herrera (for Mata, 75) - Brought on to shore up the midfield and protect the lead.

MF Andreas Pereira (for Martial, 83) -- Helped see out the game.

FW Alexis Sanchez (for Rashford 85) -- Worked hard.
