Liverpool outplayed PSG from start to finish but needed a stoppage-time winner from substitute Roberto Firmino to spare their blushes after they somehow blew a 2-0 lead. With the French side their most likely rivals to top the group, Firmino's last-gasp strike could prove crucial.
Positives
The overall performance suggests that the Merseysiders are well-equipped to make their mark on Europe again this year. PSG are one of the top sides in the competition but they were distinctly second-best throughout.
Negatives
Not killing teams off has been a recurring theme so far this season. It hasn't proved costly yet with six wins from six games played, but several of those have been far closer than they ought to be and the Reds need to quickly rediscover their killer instinct if they are to keep this run going.

8 -- Once again Jurgen Klopp came out on top against the man who succeeded him at Borussia Dortmund, Thomas Tuchel, but once again it required a stoppage-time winner to do it. Made a couple of big calls in leaving out Firmino and Naby Keita, but the replacements justified his faith.

GK Alisson, 7 -- No chance with either goal and was otherwise rarely called upon to do anything.
DF Trent Alexander-Arnold, 8 -- Charged with keeping Neymar quiet, which he did, while he also provided a constant outlet on the right-hand side. Saw more of the ball than anyone and he put it to good use. Struck the post with a free kick. He's getting closer.
DF Joe Gomez, 7 -- Did everything that was required of him to a high standard. Liverpool's dominance meant he was not tested too much and the return game in Paris will surely be more of a test. That being said, the youngster looks like he's ready for anything.
DF Virgil van Dijk, 8 -- Dominant and assured throughout despite being harshly booked early in the game. Won everything in the air, read the game superbly and sprayed the ball around the park with the kind of authority you rarely see from defenders.
DF Andrew Robertson, 8 -- Stood strong against PSG's young superstar Kylian Mbappe and was a constant threat going forward. Produced an absolute worldy of a cross to create the opening goal for Daniel Sturridge.
MF Jordan Henderson, 8 -- Recalled to the starting lineup and he didn't disappoint. Chased and harried to prevent PSG from launching their trademark dangerous counters, and used the ball sensibly. A good captain's performance.
MF James Milner, 9 -- It's difficult to find the words to do justice to how well Milner is playing at the moment. He set the tone for the performance with a thumping early challenge on Neymar and he was typically outstanding in everything he did all night. Even got on the scoresheet with a well-taken penalty.
MF Georginio Wijnaldum, 9 -- A ball of energy, his strength in possession and desire to carry the ball forward was just too much for PSG's midfielders to handle. Put simply, the French side just couldn't live with the intensity of Liverpool's midfield. Won the penalty that Milner converted and didn't put a foot wrong all night.
FW Mohamed Salah, 5 -- A rare disappointing night for the man who set this competition alight last year. Never looked right and lacked conviction with the half chances that came his way. Had a goal ruled out and it seemed to have a negative effect on his game as he began giving the ball away cheaply and it was his terrible pass which led to PSG's equaliser. He was replaced by Xherdan Shaqiri almost immediately afterwards.
FW Daniel Sturridge, 7 -- Took full advantage of Firmino's absence with a goal and a good all-round display. Should have added to his tally twice in the second half though, and had he taken one of those chances it would have been a much more comfortable night for the Reds. Eventually made way for the Brazilian but he certainly played his part in a good victory.
FW Sadio Mane, 7 -- The liveliest of Liverpool's forwards even if not everything he attempted came off. On another night he'd have come away with a couple of goals but it wasn't to be here.
Substitutes
FW Roberto Firmino, N/R -- Brilliant late winner after coming off the bench. His importance to this side can't be overstated.
FW Xherdan Shaqiri, N/R -- Made a lively contribution and won (and took) the corner from which Firmino eventually scored.
