A number of teams involved in African club competition this week already have a foot in the next round, but must go through the formality of honouring their second legs on Tuesday and Wednesday.

CAF have moved the seconds legs of the preliminary round ties in both competitions to midweek to assist with fixture congestion, a move that has largely been welcomed by clubs across the continent.

Moroccan side Difaâ El Jadidi lead Sport Bissau e Benfica from Guinea-Bissau 10-0 from the first leg of their tie, in which winger Hamid Ahaddad scored five goals to take the early lead in the Golden Boot race this year.

They played a team from Guinea-Bissau in the preliminary round in their only other appearance in the competition in 2010, on that occasion beating Os Balantas 3-0 on aggregate.

They have never been past the second round though and having made the most emphatic of starts will hope to do that this year.

Democratic Republic of Congo giants AS Vita Club lead Mighty Wanderers of Malawi 4-0 from the home leg of their tie and will not see that advantage overturned, while ES Sétif of Algeria beat Olympic Real de Bangui from the Central African Republic 6-0 in their first leg.

There are three clubs who gained excellent 3-0 home wins in the first leg of their ties a little over a week ago, but for whom the outcome remains uncertain despite their healthy advantages.

Botswana side Township Rollers take that lead to Omdurman to meet Al-Merrikh, who have promised revenge and to turn the tie on its head.

Primeiro de Agosto remain heavy favourites against FC Platinum from Zimbabwe, but will be wary of the return in Zvishavane.

Nigerian champions Plateau United also lead 3-0 from their first leg, but must now travel to troubled Eding Sport in Cameroon for what is sure to be a difficult away-day.

A number of the continent's traditional big guns must also turn over deficits if they are to avoid embarrassing early exits.

Sundanese side Al-Hilal trail LISCR of Liberia 1-0 from the first leg but are at home in the second, while Algerian side MC Alger trail 2-0 against AS Otôho of Congo-Brazzaville, but are also at home in the second leg. Uganda's KCCA are losing 2-1 to Madagascan club CNaPS Sport

Espérance from Tunisia could only manage a 1-1 draw in Mauritania against ASAC Concorde, but should complete the job at home.

There have been some equally emphatic first leg wins in the Confederation Cup, including for Petro de Luanda over Malawian side Masters Security (5-0) with the Angolans certain to advance and meet last year's finalists SuperSport United in the next round.

Egyptian side Al-Masry lead Zambian club Green Buffaloes 4-0 from their home leg, while APR of Rwanda are certain to move past Seychelles side Anse Réunion after they won by the same scoreline.

Fancied clubs who are battling to advance include Kenyan outfit AFC Leopards, who could only manage a 1-1 home draw with Fosa Juniors from Madagascar, and Nigerians Akwa United, who lost their home leg 2-1 to Banjul Hawks from Gambia.

Ivorians Africa Sports could also only manage a 1-1 home draw with Mauritanian side FC Nouadhibou.
