Kenyan champions Gor Mahia began their 2018 CAF Champions League campaign on a winning note with a 2-0 victory over Leones Vegetarianos on Saturday, although Uganda's KCCA FC suffered an early setback.

Kevin Omondi and Ephrem Guikan scored the goals against the Equatoguinean side as Gor got their CAF CL campaign off to a strong start at the Machakos Kenyatta Stadium.

Omondi made no mistake beating goalkeeper Manuel Sapunga to give K'Ogalo the lead after 19 minutes after being set up by Meddie Kagere.

The hosts should have made it 2-0, only for Humphrey Mieno to miss from the spot.

Substitute Guikan, who came on for Omondi, scored the second goal after 60 minutes as Gor threatened to romp past their opponents.

Elsewhere, Gor's fellow CECAFA heavyweights KCCA were defeated 2-1 away in Madagascar by domestic champions CNaPS Sport.

Mike Hillary Mutebi's Ugandan champions missed out on the CAF CL group stage last time around, but started this year's campaign strongly when Derrick Nsibambi struck early in the second half.

The forward had thought he'd opened the scoring in the first half, only for his effort to be ruled out, and the Ugandan heavyweights were made to rue their misfortune.

Ratolojanahary Fenosoa levelled matters for the home side, before Francis Rafaralahy's added-time goal sealed the win for the hosts in Antananarivo.
