The transfer window for all of Europe's big five leagues is closed, but that doesn't stop Transfer Talk from rummaging around about who will be moving where come January.
Wolves to demand Premier League record fee for Neves
Manchester City will have to break the Premier League transfer record to sign Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves, according to the Times.
City were linked with Portugal international Neves in the summer and remain interested in him, but Wolves will demand £110 million -- significantly more than the £89 million paid by Manchester United for Paul Pogba.
Neves moved to Wolves last year and helped them win promotion back to the top flight, with the Times reporting that the club "resisted a series of approaches ahead of their return to the Premier League."
The Mail says City boss Pep Guardiola is still targeting Neves, having missed out on Jorginho when he joined Chelsea instead.
It adds that he is determined to address "a shortage of defensive midfielders, with Fernandinho the only first-team player trusted with anchoring the midfield."
Smalling poised to sign new United deal
Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is set to sign a new contract despite being linked with a departure from Old Trafford, the Star reports.
England international Smalling, who has less than a year to run on his current terms, has been a reported target for Arsenal.
But the Star says he "is expected to sign a new deal" and will be offered an extension "despite being part of a group of players being kept waiting" on their contracts.
Arsenal remain interested in the 28-year-old, who joined United from Fulham in 2010, but "Old Trafford insiders maintain that he is happy at the club."
United manager Jose Mourinho does not want to prolong the possibility that Smalling could leave for nothing, and is keen to see him agree to another deal after failing to sign another centre-back in the summer.
The Star reports that "even if United do add to their squad in January, Smalling's future is safe" and adds that he is back in Mourinho's long-term planning after starting the last five games.
Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News says United, Arsenal and Juventus could battle for Hertha Berlin midfielder Arne Maier.
Germany under-21 midfielder Maier is reported to have been watched by scouts from all three clubs, with his contract understood to contain a £10 million buyout clause.

Following reports that Grealish -- who had at one point appeared all but certain to join Spurs -- would get a new contract, the Telegraph says he "will more than double his current £20,000-a-week salary, with confirmation expected in the next few days."
-- Birmingham could move for Bolton midfielder Josh Vela -- but not until the summer, the Birmingham Mail reports.
Leeds had hoped to sign 24-year-old Vela only for Bolton to refuse to sell, but he will be out of the contract at the end of the season and the Mail says Birmingham are monitoring the situation.
