Transfer Rater: Mesut Ozil to Manchester United; Aleksandar Mitrovic to Chelsea

Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the Whisper.

Here are today's top five emerging whispers. And keep an eye on Transfer Talk for all the latest gossip.

Mesut Ozil to Manchester United

Ozil has reportedly been told he must justify his £350,000-per-week wages by new Arsenal boss Unai Emery, according to The Express, with Manchester United waiting in the wings to move for the playmaker in January. The former Real Madrid man, who scored in the north London club's win over Newcastle United at the weekend, became Arsenal's highest-paid player when he penned new terms last season. But the German is yet to fully convince Emery. Jose Mourinho, who worked with Ozil at the Bernabeu, is said to be keen on reuniting with the midfielder at Old Trafford.

Ethan Ampadu to Cardiff City

Chelsea's 18-year-old midfielder has garnered headlines of late thanks to his impressive introduction to the senior Wales side, having earned his second and third caps in the recent international break. Ampadu's mature displays for Wales haven't gone unnoticed by Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock, who has implored the Blues to send the versatile youngster, who can play at centre-back or in central midfield, to the Welsh capital temporarily. "I think they should loan us him," Warnock said. "If they could get good players playing in the Premier League, that would benefit their development."

Aleksandar Mitrovic to Chelsea

Mitrovic may have only secured a permanent transfer to Fulham in the summer but he could soon be on the move again, The Mirror reports. Chelsea are set to line up a deal for the powerful centre-forward amid doubts over Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud. The 23-year-old Serbian netted 12 times in 17 Championship games after a January loan switch to Craven Cottage last season and has already bagged four goals in the Premier League this term.

Federico Chiesa to Chelsea

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is also weighing up a January move for Fiorentina attacker Chiesa, reports The Express. It has been reported that Juventus saw a £50 million offer for the 20-year-old winger rejected in the summer, and any successful bid will have to be significantly higher. That hasn't deterred Sarri, though, who has tracked the Italy international's progress for some time. Competition for the youngster's signature is likely to come in the form of Italian champions Juventus and Sarri's former club Napoli.

Eric Bailly to Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs are monitoring Eric Bailly's predicament at Manchester United, according to The Mirror, with a view to swooping for the Ivory Coast defender in January. Bailly, who was picked out for criticism after United's 3-2 loss away to Brighton & Hove Albion in August, has slid down the Old Trafford pecking order of late. The 24-year-old centre-back, who arrived from Villarreal for £30m in 2016, has featured in just two minutes of Premier League football since the defeat to Brighton and is now reportedly being targeted by Tottenham and rivals Arsenal.
