Chelsea bid for Bayer's Bailey knocked back; Man United join Sandro pursuit

With the calendar soon turning over to the new year, the gossip ahead of the January transfer window is heating up. Transfer Talk brings you all the latest rumours.

Chelsea see Bailey bid knocked back

Chelsea have failed with a £22 million bid for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, reports the Mail.

The Jamaica international has thrived in the Bundesliga, scoring four goals and creating four more with assists following a £12m move from Genk last term and the 20-year-old is thought to have impressed scouts in Bayer's 2-0 victory over Stuttgart last Friday.

The winger has impressed the Blues since coming onto their radar as a 15-year-old after setting up both goals in last week's win, and could force the champions to up their bid to land the prodigious young talent.

Blues also eye Arsenal target Lemar

The Blues are ready to make Monaco star Thomas Lemar another prime January target and L'Equipe report they could go up against Liverpool and Arsenal.

The champions are set to bid £80m, with the Gunners tabling £90m last summer in anticipation that Manchester City would meet Alexis Sanchez's asking price.

The 22-year-old has scored only one goal with three assists this campaign and could be the latest star to be traded for cash by Les Rouges et Blancs.

New sporting director Michael Emenalo could help his former club edge out their Premier League rivals, with former teammate Tiemoue Bakayoko able to welcome Lemar after making the same move last summer.

United to battle Chelsea for Sandro

Manchester United are playing catch-up with Chelsea in the race to sign Alex Sandro, according to the Sun.

The Blues attempted to make a move last summer, but Juventus stood firm and retained the Brazilian.

Jose Mourinho looks set to strengthen the left-back position with Ashley Young the most recent starter ahead of Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian.

Antonio Conte's side were quoted £80m last summer, but the champions will return with a bid short of that after indifferent form in Turin and a failure to sign a new deal.

Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes also hinted recently that his club were interested in a move for Sandro, putting the 26-year-old in even greater demand.

United wary of Barcelona in Griezmann pursuit

Manchester United are worried that Antoine Griezmann will sign for Barcelona next summer, according to the Independent.

The outlet suggests that the France international is set to head to the Camp Nou and that the Blaugrana are "very far ahead" of the Red Devils.

Los Colchoneros could receive well in excess of £100m for Griezmann, with Barca set to push ahead in their pursuit of a replacement for Neymar.

Tap-ins

- West Ham would consider a winter move for Arsenal star Jack Wilshere, according to David Moyes.

Moyes, who believes the January transfer window is vital if West Ham are to climb away from relegation trouble, said: "Jack Wilshere would be someone who we'd have to look at if he was available.

- AC Milan are holding off Mino Raiola in his push to make Gianluigi Donnarumma available, reports Corriere dello Sport.

The Rossoneri shot-stopper was the subject of protracted contract negotiations last summer and appeared to have offers from abroad.

- Sporting Kansas City have struck a deal for French midfielder Yohan Croizet with the city's local Star reporting that the 25-year-old will move to Major League Soccer from KV Mechelen.

- Tottenham and Everton have joined the race to sign Hamburg starlet Jann-Fiets Arp, claims the Mirror.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are also considering an offer for the 17-year-old, who is seen as one of the brightest young talents in Europe.
