Mourinho 'confident Rose move will bloom soon'Last month, reports suggested Manchester United's hopes of signing Tottenham's Danny Rose had been boosted -- and now the Mail says Jose Mourinho "believes he will become United's new first-choice left-back in a £50 million deal." It reports that the United manager "is increasingly confident of landing Rose either next month or during the summer." Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino omitted Rose from his squad for the North London derby, sparking an angry reaction from the England defender. And now the Mail says United -- who had hoped to sign him in the summer -- believe they can do so soon, although "agreeing a deal with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will be an arduous task." United are after a specialist left-back having been using Ashley Young in that position, with Luke Shaw struggling to find a way into Mourinho's plans and tipped to leave on loan. Meanwhile, the Independent reports that United are waiting to see what Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka opts to do in January. Goretzka, whose deal runs out at the end of the season, has said he will decide on his future soon and has been linked with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus -- but the Independent says there is "increasing speculation over a move to United." Sterling stalling on another deal?Reigning European champions Real Madrid are interested in Manchester City's Raheem Sterling, according to the Mirror. England international Sterling has been in fine form this season, scoring nine goals in 13 Premier League appearances for Pep Guardiola's side, and has two years left on his current deal. Real are said to be making plans for the post-Cristiano Ronaldo era and have identified Sterling as a possible replacement for Ronaldo, the report says. But any talks will have to wait until after Russia 2018, with Sterling wanting to concentrate only on football as the World Cup looms. Juve ready to step up Can pursuitJuventus could steal a march on their rivals in the race for Liverpool midfielder Emre Can by making a move in January rather than waiting until after the season, according to the Mirror. Germany international Can, out of contract at the end of the campaign, has been linked with Juve, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. But although he would be able to leave on a free come summer, Juve want to avoid being caught up in a scramble for his signature. And the Mirror, citing reports in Italy, says they "hope to persuade Liverpool to sell by paying a 'small sum' now rather than waiting for what could be an auction" to develop later. However, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants to keep Can and the powers that be at Anfield are unlikely to be interested unless Juve's offer "is in excess of £15-20m." Tap-ins- Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez wants a £20m winter budget as he looks to halt the run of poor form that threatens to pitch the Magpies into a relegation struggle. The Mirror reports that Benitez "is unsettled by Newcastle's run of five defeats in six games," and wants to buy "a new striker, a No. 10 and a left-back" regardless of whether or not a proposed takeover of the club has been completed by January. - Sam Allardyce has got off to a bright start at Everton and could make a loan move for Chelsea defender Baba Rahman when the January window opens, says the Mail. Rahman is returning to fitness after a long spell on the sidelines with a ligament injury and Everton are likely to face competition for his services, with Schalke -- for whom he played on loan last season -- Monaco, Fenerbahce and Fiorentina all interested.
