Liverpool's talks with Emre Can falter; Man City to return for Alexis

Deadline day has come and gone, and all the latest deals and potential deals can be found here, but there's plenty brewing in the market as clubs begin to look toward January.

Emre Can talks stall with Liverpool

Liverpool risk losing Emre Can on a free transfer next summer after their latest attempt to strike a deal over a new contract broke down, reports the Mirror.

The Reds are refusing to bow to the German's demands over a buyout clause but will reportedly meet the wage demands set at £100,000 per week.

Philippe Coutinho was unable to force a move this summer with Barcelona's inability to trigger a release clause that gave the Reds all the power in negotiations.

Juventus are keen to sign the 23-year-old and could agree to a deal in January if the Reds fail to agree to terms.

City eye Alexis Sanchez bargain

Manchester City were left frustrated after a summer move for Alexis Sanchez failed to materialise but the Sun claim Arsenal may consider selling in January for just £20 million.

The Chilean can walk away for nothing in 2018 and City are prepared to wait six months longer if the price isn't right.

Sanchez may jump at the chance of a midseason move if City can offer the chance of winning the Champions League ahead of the World Cup with La Roja.

Costa deal key to Simeone extension

Diego Simeone signed his new contact with Atletico Madrid only after the club promised to bring Diego Costa back to the Spanish capital in January, claims the Mirror, as the Argentinian coach has penned new terms to tie himself to the club until 2020.

And one of his conditions for him to extend his stay was to bring Costa back midseason from Chelsea three-and-a-half years after departing the Calderon.

Costa is back in London after a summer away in Brazil, and Atleti now hope to finalise the signing once their transfer ban expires ahead of the January transfer window.

Tap-ins

- Hull want to boost their hopes of promotion by adding two free transfers following their solid start to the season after relegation to the Championship.

Leonid Slutsky wants to sign Joe Ledley, whose contract at Crystal Palace expired this summer, and Sebastien Bassong, who last played at Norwich.

- Juventus may sell Stephan Lichtsteiner before Turkey's Friday transfer deadline day, reports Tuttosport.

The Swiss international has only one year remaining on his deal and Besiktas have shown an interest ahead of a potential move this week.

- Tuttosport also details how Inter are already planning for Samir Handanovic's potential exit next summer and the Nerazzurri want an Italian to succeed him.

Genoa's Mattia Perin, Cagliari's Alessio Cragno and Udinese starlet Alex Meret are the candidates.

- And finally, in bizarre transfer news, Bolton are lining up an unexpected move for former Real Madrid and Arsenal star Julio Baptista, reports Sky Sports.

The 35-year-old has been without a club for almost a year after leaving Orlando City ahead of an appearance that would have triggered a $1m loyalty bonus, but after training with the Trotters' under-23 side, he may have found an unlikely new club to extend his career.
