Carlos Valderrama promised he will cut his curly blonde hair if Colombia win the World Cup this summer.
Colombia will meet Japan in their World Cup opener on June 19 and also face Poland and Senegal in Group H.
Los Cafeteros did not appear at a World Cup from 2002 until 2010 but reached the quarterfinals four years ago -- their best finish in the competition -- before being eliminated by hosts Brazil.
Valderrama, 56, was asked if he would cut his famous hair if Colombia lifted the trophy in Russia.
"If we are world champions ... it's yes," Valderrama told RT. "We don't qualify for World Cups very often, you know. So, we have to use this opportunity and if we reach there, we live it in the flesh."
Valderrama will be a host throughout the World Cup for Spanish television channel RT.
"For me, personally, it's an opportunity to show what happiness means to us, the Colombians," he said. "Besides, all our country will be able to see our national team play and have all the information live and directly from RT."
Considered among the best South American players of all time, the former Deportivo Cali playmaker made 111 appearances for his country and captained Colombia in the World Cup in 1990, 1994 and 1998.
There is even a 22-foot bronze statue of Valderrama outside the Eduardo Santos stadium in his home town of Santa Marta.
