Crewe's 'big reveal' on transfer plans turns out to be big departure

With their team hovering just two places above the League Two relegation zone, Crewe Alexandra fans were understandably excited when the club teased some "major transfer news" this week.

As soon as the announcement was made via the official Twitter account, supporters began feverishly debating just who would be arriving in January to help drag the Railwaymen up the table.

The promised update followed just 13 minutes later, though it wasn't entirely as exciting as Crewe fans had hoped.

Indeed, the club actually took the opportunity to announce that promising midfielder George Cooper had left to join Peterborough.

As you might imagine, Crewe managed to anger quite a number of fans with the odd manner in which they decided to deliver such disappointing news.

Aged just 21, Cooper has been an ever-present in Crewe's midfield so far this season with a string of impressive performances under his belt.

Quite why they would choose to hype his departure in such a baffling way is truly anybody's guess.
