Having won the Champions League, four FA Cups, league titles galore and almost 60 caps for his country, it's only right that Michael Essien was given the esteemed honour of having a statue erected in his homeland of Ghana.
Created by a local artist, the homage to the ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid star was unveiled recently in the city of Kumasi.
maybe these sculptors must help us understand what's going on..

.If you thought Ronaldo's was crazy....Micheal Essien 👓👓👓👓 pic.twitter.com/306W36ue2T
As you can see, the sculptor responsible for this peerless work has managed to capture Essien's essence and likeness perfectly: C-3PO in a Chelsea shirt.
They say you've never truly made it in football until somebody creates a truly terrible statue of you. Essien now joins such luminaries as Cristiano Ronaldo and Diego Maradona in having a likeness of questionable accuracy on public display.
2017 was a rough year for footballer statues.

Which is worse: Diego Maradona's statue or Cristiano Ronaldo's bust? pic.twitter.com/JWmtaY9JtC
Welcome to the club, Michael.
