Toni Kroos names Paul Scholes as England's best ever midfielder

Since the mid-2000s, football fans have argued vehemently over who is the finest English central midfielder to have ever graced the Premier League.

The squabble usually boils down to just three names: Liverpool's Steven Gerrard, Chelsea's Frank Lampard or Manchester United's Paul Scholes, with ultimate preference generally being dictated by club allegiance.

However, Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos -- a pretty handy player himself -- has now waded into the debate by offering forth his considerable opinion on the matter.

Asked as part of his #AskToni social media Q&A session which of the aforementioned trio he'd pick as the best, the Germany star's response was short, succinct and definitive.

Kroos' decision to opt for Scholes didn't go unnoticed over at Manchester United either, who responded to his reply with a token of their appreciation.

It takes a great midfielder to know a great midfielder, and Kroos has surpassed even Scholes himself in terms of accolades and trophies acquired in his career to date, despite still only being 27 years old.

Whether the dispute has now been settled once and for all remains to be seen. Though, we fear not.
