Bastian Schweinsteiger has announced he is about to become a father for the first time, with the Chicago Fire midfielder confirming as much on social media on Thursday.
The news was actually broken by Schweinsteiger's wife, tennis star Ana Ivanovic, who shared a photo of the couples' sneakers, along with an additional pair of matching baby booties.

Schweinsteiger's accompanying Twitter announcement was a little less cryptic, with the former Germany captain opting for the efficient, matter-of-fact approach.
With his Fire contract scheduled to run out in March of next year, Schweini will no doubt now be looking to renew his terms at the first available juncture.
After all, diapers and dummies don't buy themselves!
