Ragnar Klavan: Jurgen Klopp selfie convinced me about Liverpool interest

At first Ragnar Klavan didn't believe Jurgen Klopp's plea for him to join Liverpool was genuine, believing it was part of some crude prank.

In the summer of 2016, Klopp was keen on signing Klavan for defensive cover, with Klopp sending the Augsburg defender a text message as part of the charm offensive.

Klavan, then 30, was suspicious about the interest and sought some assurances that he was, indeed, speaking to the Liverpool manager.

When asked by BT Sport whether he had reservations about the legitimacy of Klopp's text, Klavan said: "Yes, I did not believe it.

"I asked for some kind of confirmation so Jurgen sent me a selfie."

The picture seemed to do the trick as Klavan eventually joined in a £4.2 million deal.
