Transfer Rater: Mauro Icardi to Real Madrid, Leon Goretzka to Arsenal

Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the whisper.

Here are today's top five emerging whispers. And keep an eye on Transfer Talk for all the latest gossip.

Mauro Icardi to Real Madrid

In an interview with Italian outlet Premium Sport, former AC Milan legend Daniele Massaro claimed Icardi would be a Real Madrid player next year: "I can tell you today that Icardi will be at Real Madrid next year in place of [Karim] Benzema." Zinedine Zidane's men aren't at their free-scoring best in La Liga and already trail Barcelona by 10 points. Furthermore, Benzema has scored just one of the team's 22 goals in the Spanish league this season. Former La Masia player Icardi, on the other hand, has scored 13 goals in 13 Serie A matches and is well on course to beat last season's tally of 24.

Leon Goretzka to Arsenal

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are looking to raid Schalke yet again to sign another one of their star players on a free transfer. Just 12 months after successfully convincing Sead Kolasinac that the Emirates was the best place for him to progress his career, they're looking to sell the same pitch to Goretzka. The 22-year-old is out of contract in the summer and free to speak to clubs in January. Manchester City, Juventus and Liverpool are all interested in the German midfielder too.

Jack Harrison to Leicester City

Leicester are set to pip Manchester City to the signing of former Manchester United academy player Harrison. The 21-year-old has caught the eye while playing for New York City in the MLS and was recently called up to the England Under-21 squad. Brighton and Everton are thought to be keen on the midfielder but it was believed Pep Guardiola has first refusal on him due to the partnership City have with the MLS franchise. However, Calciomercato say Harrison's likely destination is Leicester.

Danilo Pereira to Manchester United

Jose Mourinho is set to reignite his rivalry with Wenger. The two managers are interested in Porto midfielder Danilo and sent scouts to watch him recently. The Sun claim United are the frontrunners for his signature with the club looking to bring in a midfielder to replace Ander Herrera, who has yet to agree a contract extension at Old Trafford and has been linked with Atletico Madrid.

Dimitri Oberlin to Manchester United

Oberlin is on loan at Basel from Red Bull Salzburg. His form for the Swiss club has alerted Europe's elite and the likes of Arsenal, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Man United are circling. TuttoMercatoWeb report United have sent scouts to check on the speedster in recent weeks and having been impressed, they could activate his €5 million release clause to bring him to Old Trafford before other teams have the chance to make their move.
