Transfer Rater: Wilfried Zaha to Arsenal, Marco Asensio to Manchester United

Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the whisper.

Here are today's top five emerging whispers. And keep an eye on Transfer Talk for all the latest gossip.

Wilfried Zaha to Arsenal

Arsenal are lining up a £35 million bid for Crystal Palace winger Zaha. Arsene Wenger wants the former Manchester United man as a long-term replacement for Manchester City target Alexis Sanchez. The Eagles are determined to keep the Ivory Coast international but realise it may be difficult if the Gunners bid for the 25-year-old. Zaha has shown glimpses of his best form since returning from injury, scoring a winner against Chelsea and netting a last-gasp equaliser in the clash with West Ham.

Marco Asensio to Manchester United

United have offered Real Madrid playmaker Asensio a massive five-year deal to join Old Trafford, according to Don Balon. The Spanish outlet claims United are willing to pay an eye-popping £177m for the 21-year-old. Asensio has emerged as one of the most exciting young players in La Liga, scoring four goals already this season. Despite his enormous price-tag, United are still willing to pursue a formal approach and make Asensio the second-most expensive player of all time after Neymar.

Fernando Torres to Southampton

The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker is considering a return to the Premier League, with Southampton and Newcastle United both linked with the 33-year-old. Torres has started just twice for Atletico Madrid this season and will be pushed further down the pecking order with Diego Costa set to be eligible to play from January. Torres is keen to see out the final 18 months of his contract with Atletico and retire when it expires. But he could be swayed into a short-term loan deal in order to get regular first-team football and he could provide the answer to Southampton's scoring woes. The Saints have netted just nine times in 11 games under Mauricio Pellegrino this season.

Steven N'Zonzi to Manchester City

Former Stoke City midfielder N'Zonzi has emerged as a shock Arsenal and Manchester City target. The Frenchman, who has impressed for Sevilla since joining from the Potters in 2015, admits he could be tempted into a return to the Premier League, saying: "I love the Premier League. This is where I started at a good level. I had a great time there." But N'Zonzi, 28, also insisted he is happy at Sevilla. "I don't know what is going to happen in the future. I am fine at Sevilla, I feel good. I am used to it now. It is my third season so I am happy," he added.

Leander Dendoncker to AC Milan

AC Milan are interested in Manchester United target Dendoncker. The 22-year-old was linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer, with his agent Christophe Henrotay confirming he wanted to leave Anderlecht. However, although Dendoncker stayed, interest in him remains high, with Tuttosport reporting that Milan have entered the race for the midfielder. The Rossoneri are keen to bolster their midfield options but it will take a bid of around £30m to prise the Belgium international away from the Belgian giants.
