Teerasil Dangda linked move to Sanfrecce in J.League - report

Thailand and Muang Thong United striker Teerasil Dangda could be set to follow Chanathip Songkrasin to Japan as J.League club Sanfrecce Hiroshima prepare a bid.

According to reports in the Thai media, the 2015 J.League champions have opened negotiations with Muang Thong with a view to either buying the striker outright or taking him on loan.

The latest development follows weeks of speculation that have seen Teerasil linked with several Japanese clubs, including 2017 J.League champions Kawasaki Frontale and Chanathip's Consadole Sapporo.

Thailand playmaker Chanathip's success in his loan spell has heightened interest in Thai players, in addition to the J.League's lack of quota restrictions on players from Southeast Asia.

29-year-old Teerasil has already experienced moves overseas, having spent a brief period with Manchester City in 2007-08. However, he never played for the English club and was loaned out to Grasshoppers in Switzerland where he made a few appearances for the reserve side.

More recently, Teerasil spent six months on loan at UD Almería in La Liga. While he gained valuable experience in arguably the top league in the world, the striker failed to establish himself and left after just six league appearances as a substitute. His only goal came in a Copa Del Rey clash against Real Betis.

Nevertheless, Teerasil continues to impress in the Thai League and his performances in this year's AFC Champions League brought him to the attention of several clubs.

He scored an impressive five goals in Muang Thong's memorable run to the last 16, including a combined three goals against Japanese opponents Kashima Antlers and Frontale.

Sanfrecce certainly need someone to lift morale following a very disappointing 2017 campaign. In a dramatic change of fortunes, they avoided relegation by just one point, a mere two years after lifting the title.

It is understood that Teerasil is currently on vacation, but will consider a move when he returns to Thailand.
