Singapore goalkeeper Hassan Sunny is set to rejoin former club Army United in Thai League 2 (T2) from next month. According to reports in the Thai media, the club president has confirmed that Hassan will be officially unveiled on Jan. 5. Hassan was with the Bangkok based side in 2015 and 2016 when they were in Thailand's top tier. This may put an end to speculation that Muang Thong United were lining him up as a possible replacement for Kawin Thamsatchanan in the event that the Thailand keeper earns a move to the J.League. After an excellent start to the 2015 season under Gary Stevens at Army United, the signing of Hassan was hailed as a master stroke. Stevens was abruptly sacked after a brief dip in form, but the team still finished in 10th spot, and Hassan was considered by many as Army United's player of the year. Unfortunately, things did not go quite so well in 2016. After a steady first half of the season, the club's form nosedived and relegation to T2 was the result. Hassan was released a year early from his contract and told ESPN FC at the time that this was down to budget issues relating to the team's drop into T2. The 2014 S.League Player of the Year returned to his homeland and captained Home United to a third place finish and a Singapore Cup semifinal this year. The 'Gentlemen Rangers' failed to win promotion this year, ending the season in ninth place. The resigning of Hassan is an early indication that the club wants to make a more determined push to win back their place in T1. In 2013, Army finished an all-time high of sixth in T1, but every season since has seen a dip in performance. If Hassan can demonstrate the form he showed in his first spell in Thailand, Army United's fortunes may well be set to improve.
