Head coach Rahmad Darmawan has left T-Team following the decision to transform the club into Terengganu FC II.
T-Team competed in the Malaysia Super League (MSL) this year and finished in ninth place. However, the newly branded outfit will slip down to the Malaysian Premier League, while Terengganu FA have been promoted the MSL.
T-Team's recent performance in playing at a level above Terengganu FA would certainly not have been anticipated when the club was formed in 2006.
Terengganu are the state's big team with a fine history, including an MSL and FA Cup double as recently as 2011. But T-Team's first season in the MSL last year saw their neighbours relegated.
The decision to restructure football in the state comes from the FA of Terengganu (PBSNT). Rahmad is not prepared to be a part of the new project, despite being offered a new contract.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to PBSNT because they still showed faith in me to lead TFCII and to be honest, I am sad to leave the team, the state and the supporters," Rahmad told The New Straits Times.
"However, after thinking long and hard, I have taken the professional approach by resigning after two years of being in charge of T-Team."
Rahmad is set to return to his native Indonesia to continue his career, having spent two years in Malaysia.
The restructuring of T-Team comes at the same time as the withdrawal of former MSL club Sime Darby from the Malaysian Premier League.
Sime Darby won the third tier Malaysia FAM League this year to apparently seal a return to the Premier League.
But fans of the club were stunned when a statement was released on the official website to indicate that the club would focus in youth development, rather than the professional game.
"Sime Darby Football Club officially announces that the club will not be competing in the 2018 Premier League," the club statement said.
"However, as an affiliate of KLFA [Kuala Lumpur Football Association}, the club will continue to compete in the KLFA First Division beginning on Dec 7 and give more focus to our Under-12 development programme in Bukit Jelutong."
