Germany to stay top of FIFA Ranking, Peru enter top 10 for first time

Germany will stay top of the FIFA World Ranking for the second consecutive month when the new table is published on Monday.

The top six remains unchanged from last month, with Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Belgium and Poland following behind the current world champions.

The list will be used to create the pots for the World Cup finals draw on Dec. 1, which means those six nations, along with hosts Russia, are joined by France. Les Bleus sneaked into the top seeds right at the end of qualifying after Switzerland, Chile and Peru failed to win their final matches, with France climbing one place in the ranking.

Brazil would have retaken top spot had they beaten Bolivia, but were held to a 0-0 draw.

Spain return to the top 10, climbing three, just missing out on a World Cup seed by eight ranking points. Chile, the highest-ranking team not to make the World Cup and the only one inside the top 13 to be knocked out, are unchanged in ninth.

Peru, who will face New Zealand in the World Cup playoffs, enter the top 10 for the first-ever time, up two from 12.

Switzerland are the only team to drop out of the top 10, down four from their defeat away to Portugal.

England rise three places to 12th, moving back above neighbours Wales who are down one to 14th.

The only other major changes inside the top 20 sees Denmark up seven into 19th -- their best ranking since 2012 when they were as high as ninth. And Netherlands' reward for back-to-back wins might not be a World Cup playoff place, but they are up nine to 20th, their highest place for two years.

Republic of Ireland climb eight into 26th, but are still three places behind Northern Ireland. Scotland enjoy a huge rise of 14 places into 29th, a three-year high.

One of the biggest losers will be Ecuador, set to drop 25 places from 35th to 60th after losing six consecutive World Cup qualifiers this year.

Mexico are still the top-ranked team in CONCACAF, though down two into 16th. Costa Rica are down one in 22nd, with United States rising one to 27th despite being knocked out of the World Cup.

Tunisia, up three to 28th, replace Egypt as the No. 1 nation in Africa. Iran drop nine to 34th due to playing two international friendlies while most other countries were playing competitive matches, but are still top in Asia. Australia climb seven into 43rd, with Japan down four into 44th.
