Jupp Heynckes will leave at end of season, Bayern Munich CEO confirms

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that interim coach Jupp Heynckes will leave the club at the end of the season.

Heynckes took over until the end of the campaign following the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti in September, with the upturn in form he has achieved leading to calls for his stint to be extended.

Speaking after his side's weekend defeat at Borussia Monchengladbach, 72-year-old Heynckes had dismissed suggestions that he could stay on.

And Rummenigge told reporters: "That's what Jupp has announced, and that's the way it will be."

It comes after Uli Hoeness had told Bayern's AGM on Friday that he thought Heynckes could be persuaded to stay, adding: "I believe it is possible, yes -- nothing is ruled out."

But Rummenigge said: "Uli Hoeness didn't stoke up a discussion about the coach's future. Actually, he was just stressing his high regard for Jupp Heynckes.

"Jupp wants to stick to the agreement and that is OK. Yesterday he asked me why Uli had said that and I replied by telling him this and everything was fine."

He said Bayern would take their time in the search for a new coach and added: "I can imagine that Jupp will play a role in this."

Meanwhile, Rummenigge said he had not ruled out the possibility that Hoffenheim striker Sandro Wagner, a former Bayern player, could return as backup for Robert Lewandowski.

Hoeness had said the two clubs were "miles apart" on a fee, but Rummenigge said: "We still have to intensively discuss with the coach if he sees a need. If he sees a need and we are able to agree a sensible transfer fee, I wouldn't rule it out.

"The player is interested -- he has a massive personal interest in joining. His wife lives here and is pregnant with their third child. These private matters are obviously not so easy for him to solve.

"I would say there is a mutual interest both from the player and from us. That definitely doesn't make it easy for Hoffenheim."

Wagner is under contract at Hoffenheim until 2020, and reports in Germany have suggested he could be allowed for a fee in excess of €10 million.
