There was no nostalgia from Luis Enrique on Saturday as he signed off as Barcelona manager by winning the Copa del Rey before saying there is no sadness as he walks away from the club after three years in charge of the first team.
Goals from Lionel Messi, Neymar and Paco Alcacer helped Barca beat Alaves 3-1 at the Vicente Calderon to win the Spanish Cup for the third consecutive season, clinching a ninth trophy for the Catalan club since Luis Enrique's appointment in 2014.
Only Pep Guardiola (14) and Johan Cruyff (11) have won more titles as Barca manager than Luis Enrique, who stood by his decision to walk away this summer.
"There is no sadness, just total joy," the Barca coach said in his post game news conference. "I'm the one who decided that it's best to stop now. It's the right time for me and for the players.
"Due to the intensity with which you have to live this profession, there's a lot of wear and tear, so it's not a shame [I'm leaving], the opposite.
"And if someone told me I would win nine trophies out of 13, I would have been delighted. I have received 100 percent from the team and I have given them 100 percent, too. I don't think anyone can knock me in that regard."
Barca will announce their new manager on Monday and Luis Enrique said his advice to his replacement is just to "enjoy" the job, before joking that his next move could be away from football.
"I don't know what I will do in the future," he added. "I am open to any possibility, even changing sports. I could coach in another sport, I'm quite good at other sports."
Messi was once again the star of the show for Luis Enrique as Barca beat Alaves in the last-ever competitive game at the Calderon on Saturday. He scored a delightful opener, played an incisive pass in the build up to the second goal and then single-handedly laid on the third for Alcacer.
It's been a theme of the Luis Enrique era and the departing coach, for one last time, took the chance to laud the Argentina international.
"Messi is extraordinary," he said. "He's an extra-terrestrial: how he beats players, how he leads the team... I've had the opportunity to be able to enjoy him at his peak, the best version of Messi -- or [at least] one of the best.
"He's the No. 1, without doubt, and it's a genuine pleasure to coach him. He's a player that takes complete care of himself, but he doesn't need his physique for his change of pace, to generate that superiority -- and he will be around for a while yet."
