Atlanta United forward Josef Martinez, who leads the MLS with five goals, will miss four to six weeks with a left quad injury.
The expansion team says Martinez suffered the injury last week when playing for the Venezuela in a FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The 23-year-old played 59 minutes for Venezuela on Thursday in a 2-2 draw with Peru before picking up the injury.
Martinez has led Atlanta United, which plays at Seattle on Friday, to two wins from its opening three MLS games.
He had a hat trick in a 6-1 win over Minnesota United and added two more goals in a 4-0 win over Chicago.
