Wilshere and Walcott aiming to give Wenger selection headache

Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere hope they have given Arsene Wenger a selection headache after helping Arsenal to a 6-0 rout of BATE Borisov in the Europa League.

Both England players were on the scoresheet, with Wilshere adding an assist to his first Arsenal goal since May 2015, as they push for more playing time in the Premier League.

"There is plenty of competition when you play for Arsenal Football Club but it's a great headache for the manager to have with so many top players," Walcott said on BT Sport 2.

"We are doing our best to give the manager a headache. To get in the team, all we can do when called upon is be ready. The performance tonight was very professional and everyone did their jobs."

Wilshere added: "All we can do when we get the opportunity is show what we can do. We have to support the boys because at the end of the day we're all Arsenal."

A much-changed Gunners side played with plenty of freedom, with Mathieu Debuchy opening the scoring after 11 minutes while Walcott and Wilshere made it 3-0 before half-time.

Denis Polyakov scored an own goal before Wilshere teed up Mohamed Elneny and Olivier Giroud finished the job from the penalty spot.

"The boss told us to go out and enjoy ourselves," Walcott said. "We've already qualified so we played with freedom, attacked very well and were defensively solid.

"There were so many smiles out there, the guys enjoying playing again and it was nice to get all those goals."
