Islam Slimani makes Carabao Cup Team of the Tournament

Islam Slimani may have endured a largely miserable 18 months in English football, but the Algeria international's contributions for Leicester City have been recognised with a spot in the Carabao Cup Team of the Tournament.

The forward, who's currently on loan at Newcastle United, played a peripheral role for the Foxes in the Premier League during the first half of the campaign, scoring just once in 12 outings, of which only two were starts.

However, he excelled when handed an opportunity in the Carabao Cup. Indeed, the 29-year-old netted twice in the 4-1 victory over Sheffield United, scored another in the 2-0 victory over Liverpool and also found the net as Leeds United were defeated 3-1.

He wasn't used in the quarter-final penalty-shootout defeat by eventual winners Manchester City, who saw off Arsenal 3-0 at Wembley on Sunday to clinch their first silverware of the season.

Slimani has endured fairly miserable fortunes since moving to Leicester from Sporting Lisbon for an eye-watering £29 million in the summer of 2016, managing just seven league goals last term.

He secured a January transfer to Newcastle United, but has been left with little opportunity to impress at St. James Park after aggravating a thigh injury during one of his maiden training sessions at his new club.
