Alaves sack Luis Zubeldia after goalless, winless start to season

Alaves coach Luis Zubeldia has become the first manager to be sacked this season in La Liga.

The former Argentina player was let go by Alaves on Sunday after a 3-0 home loss to Villarreal, their fourth straight defeat that left them in last place with no goals scored.

Alaves said that Javier Cabello would be interim manager.

Zubeldia, 36, was hired in June to replace Mauricio Pellegrino, who left the club after guiding them to the final of the Copa del Rey last season, where they lost to Barcelona.

Zubeldia had previously managed several clubs in Latin America, including most recently Colombia side Independiente Medellin.
