Rivaldo Coetzee must wait until January for move

Ajax Cape Town will try and help defender Rivaldo Coetzee win his dream move overseas in January after the heartbreak of his failed signing for Scottish Premier League giants Glasgow Celtic.

The Urban Warriors had reached an agreement for the sale of Coetzee to Celtic last week, but the player failed a medical with a problem with a bone in his foot, which saw the deal collapse.

The 20-year-old has been left devastated and will now undergo surgery to correct the problem, with an expected absence somewhere in the region of six to eight weeks.

Coetzee had played in Ajax's season opener at home to Golden Arrows without discomfort in the foot at least, though he did end up with a tight hamstring.

"Ajax Cape Town can confirm that they were not aware of any condition that would have potentially hampered a transfer to Celtic," the club said in a statement, which says much about the difference in medical examinations between the two countries.

Coetzee has now been withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad to face Cape Verde Islands in two crucial 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Friday (away) and next Tuesday (home).

KweséESPN understands that Ajax are still committed to finding Coetzee a European club and have now targeted an exit for him in the January transfer window.
