Nigeria were knocked out of the 2016 African Nations Championship on Tuesday after a 1-0 defeat against Guinea in their winner-takes-all final group game. A goal shortly before half-time from Ibrahima Sankhon was enough for Guinea, who should also have had a penalty in a dominant first half. Joining Guinea in the quarterfinals will be Group C winners Tunisia, who eased past Niger 5-0 to top the pool on goal difference. Saad Dguir scored twice for Tunisia before the break and a red card early in the second half for Niger's Youssouf Alio ended the game as a contest. Ahmed Akaichi, Ben Amor and Hichem Essifi all found the net to add gloss to the score-line and boost the Carthage Eagles above Guinea and into Group C's top spot. The quarterfinals will be held on Jan. 30 and 31.
