Adelaide United signs Slovenia international Dzengis Cavusevic

The experience of Adelaide United signing Dzengis Cavusevic will be vital in the run into the A-League finals, coach Marco Kurz says.

The 30-year-old Slovenian striker, who has spent the bulk of his career playing in Switzerland, could debut for the Reds in their next game against the Central Coast Mariners on Feb 17.

"Dzengis will bring a lot of experience from Europe to our team and this will be important as we get closer to the finals," Kurz said in a statement.

"He is a very strong player and he is a hard worker, which I am sure will be a very good fit for our team."

Cavusevic, a two-time Slovenia international, has been earmarked to fill a finishing void at the fourth-placed Reds.

United have recorded the most shots this season but have the worst conversion rate in the league.

Midfielder Ryan Kitto is their leading scorer with five goals.

Cavusevic started his career in Slovenia before moving to Switzerland in 2010, where he has had stints with Wil 1900, FC St Gallen and FC Zurich.

"I'm excited for life in Australia but the most important thing for me is the football and this is the first priority," he said in a statement.

"For me, the team comes first and I am not someone who will be only thinking of myself when on the football field."
