Gennaro Gattuso could coach AC Milan for the next 10 years - Mirabelli

Gennaro Gattuso could be in charge of AC Milan for the next decade, according to the club's sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli.

The 40-year-old has been placed in charge of the Rossoneri until the end of the season, having been promoted from his position as youth team coach following the sacking of Vincenzo Montella in November.

His future beyond the summer is not yet certain, but Mirabelli has backed him to keep the role on a full-time basis after being impressed by his first few months at the helm.

"Gattuso is not just strength and determination, he is also a great man in addition to being a very well prepared coach," Mirabelli told Sky Sport Italia. "I hope that he can remain our coach for the next 10 years and not just for this season or the next.

"Gattuso's 'Milanism' is very deeply rooted and he has managed to reunite the environment in an extraordinary manner. Who could have done it better than he?

"We've not achieved anything yet, but the team is playing more and more like a team, they can hold their own against anybody, and are battling it out on three fronts.

"We believe strongly in our decisions and we've built a young team with solid foundations."

Another former Milan great, and ex-teammate of Gattuso's, Kakha Kaladze has also backed him to turn around the Rossoneri's fortunes.

"When he arrived, the team were quite clearly in great difficulty,"he told Sky Sport. "His determination has been crucial in this change of gear.

"In addition to being a great person, I think he has become a fundamental coach for this Milan and I hope he succeeds in making them competitive again, back at the levels where they belong."

Milan won three games in a row for the first time in almost a year before drawing with Udinese last weekend. They have reduced the deficit on the top six to three points while Champions League qualification, by virtue of a top-four finish, is now just 10 points away.

Unbeaten in 2018, the Rossoneri head to SPAL on Saturday before hosting Sampdoria -- who are currently sitting in sixth place -- the following weekend.
