Are Chelsea players still top-tier fantasy picks?

Marcos Alonso only has a single assist (and no goals) during his past eight games, but he's still a strong option in ESPN Fantasy Soccer. Shaun Brooks/Action Plus/Icon Sportswire

Raise your hand if you predicted Salomon Rondon would be the Premier League's highest fantasy scorer in Matchweek 12.

You better not have your hand up!

No one would have picked the 29-year-old Venezuelan forward, who scored his first two goals of the season in Newcastle's 2-1 victory over Bournemouth two weekends ago.

Rondon was the only player to score more than one goal in what was a relatively dull set of games. In case you've forgotten over the international break, Matchweek 12 featured just 20 goals in total.

Manchester City was the only team to score more than two, in their 3-1 win over Manchester United. Liverpool didn't feast on cellar-dwellers Fulham after all, only winning 2-0 (although Fulham still sacked their manager, Slavisa Jokanovic, replacing him with Claudio Ranieri). Tottenham squeaked past Crystal Palace, 1-0. Arsenal couldn't even manage that, needing a late goal to rescue a 1-1 draw against Wolves.

But this week I'd like to focus on the one "big six" club that didn't score a single goal: Chelsea, who played out a 0-0 draw at home against Everton.

On the surface, this is cause for concern, right? Eden Hazard returned to the starting lineup, but didn't manage a goal or assist. The same goes for Marcos Alonso, who now has no goals and just one assist in the past eight games.

Alvaro Morata obviously didn't score, either, and he took just one shot against Everton.

But don't sour on these Chelsea players just yet.

Let's start with Hazard. He still managed to put up 14.8 fantasy points, despite not having a goal or assist. Hazard took three shots, with two of them on target, and had five chances created.

He's still the league leader in fantasy points on the season, with nearly 13 points more than Sergio Aguero in second place. And Hazard has only played in 11 of 12 league games, and only started in eight of them. Hazard still merits strong consideration at Tier 1 midfielder each and every week.

Alonso also finished in double-digits, with 10.0 fantasy points. He hasn't produced much in the way of attacking dividends recently, as mentioned above, but he looked like the Alonso of old against Everton. He took three shots -- one of them hit the post, and another forced a good save from Jordan Pickford.

And Alonso isn't a risky play, either. He's ninth in the league in passes completed, and the only fullback above him is teammate Cesar Azpilicueta. So Alonso will virtually always deliver at least a decent score.

Morata's one shot against Everton forced a very good save from Pickford. He also had a goal disallowed (correctly) for offside, and could have won a penalty after a tangle with Yerry Mina in the box. It's also worth noting that Morata played the full 90 minutes for the second league game in a row, despite the availability of Olivier Giroud on the bench. And Morata had scored three goals in the previous two games, taking five shots each time.

The only reason I'll throw some cold water on Morata is that he's been bumped up to a Tier 1 forward, alongside the likes of Aguero, Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane. It'll take some guts to choose Morata over the likes of them most weeks.

Speaking of Kane, Chelsea will be up against "the Harry Kane team" -- as Pep Guardiola once called Tottenham -- at Wembley on Saturday. Manchester City and Liverpool have much easier matchups, so your fantasy team probably shouldn't feature many Chelsea players, if any, this week.

But don't jump to conclusions after one scoreless draw against a decent Everton side. Maurizio Sarri just set a new Premier League record, with Chelsea having now gone unbeaten in his first 12 games in charge. Hazard, Alonso and Morata should still be very much in your thoughts, fantasy-wise.

As for Salomon Rondon? Not so much.
