La Liga fantasy transfer market for Matchweeks 6 & 7

Once again, Lionel Messi is a top option in La Liga fantasy. AFP/Getty Images

We've reached the first double matchweek of the season in La Liga! All 20 teams will play twice this week, and both games will count in terms of your fantasy squad.

So you'll be picking your lineup based on both sets of games, and each player's fantasy points total for the week will be the combination of their score in the first game and their score in the second game.

Here are my picks for this week:

Tier 1 Forward

Add: Lionel Messi (Barcelona)

He scored his fifth goal of the season in Barcelona's 2-2 draw with Girona on Sunday and remains the runaway fantasy points leader in La Liga, currently with 143.7 -- nearly 55 more than any other player. Barca play at last-place Leganes on Wednesday and then host Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.

Avoid: Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid)

His team won 2-0 at Getafe on Saturday, but Costa took only one shot and is still yet to score a goal in five league games this season. Atletico have an attractive matchup on Tuesday, hosting Huesca, but then play at Real Madrid on Saturday.

Tier 2 Forward

Add: Iago Aspas (Celta Vigo)

He was one of three players in this tier to score two or more goals last weekend -- the others being Sevilla's Wissam Ben Yedder (who scored a hat trick) and Girona's Cristhian Stuani (who, like Aspas, had a brace). I'm sticking with Aspas, who is tied for sixth overall in fantasy points (78.3) (significantly ahead of Stuani and Ben Yedder) and who will be playing against Valencia (away) and Getafe (home).

Avoid: Ben Yedder, Stuani

I'd actually pick them over most, if not all, of the other players in this tier, besides Aspas. But Ben Yedder has only played in three of Sevilla's five league games so far and came off the bench in two of those games -- plus one of Sevilla's games this week is against Real Madrid. Stuani is tied for the league lead in goals with Messi, but he only took two shots against Barcelona, and he's actually only taken 10 shots in five games. Plus, Aspas has 12 chances created, compared to Stuani's two.

Tier 1 Midfielder

Add: Philippe Coutinho (Barcelona)

The top two players in this tier -- Coutinho and Gareth Bale -- were both rested this past weekend. Bale didn't play at all in Real Madrid's 1-0 win over Espanyol. That actually makes it more likely they will start in both games this week, but Bale will have to go up against Atletico in one of those games, which is never easy. Coutinho was very active off the bench against Girona, taking four shots despite only coming on in the 58th minute, and I like Barca's matchups this week better.

Avoid: Luka Modric (Real Madrid)

He won the FIFA Player of the Year award on Monday, but Modric certainly isn't the best option in this tier. He hasn't scored a goal yet this season and has only scored one league goal in each of the past two seasons.

Tier 2 Midfielder

Add: Maxi Gomez (Celta Vigo)

Ibai Gomez was the only midfielder to score a brace last week, in Alaves' 5-1 win at Rayo Vallecano. But I still prefer Maxi, who is really a forward and had a goal and an assist in Celta's 3-3 draw with Real Valladolid. Gomez has three goals and three assists in five games, and scored 17 goals in 36 games last season.

Avoid: Pablo Sarabia (Sevilla)

He had one of the most eye-catching stat lines in Spain last weekend, with a goal and three assists in Sevilla's 6-2 win at Levante. But Sarabia failed to notch a goal or an assist in their first four games of the season, and one of their games this week is against Real Madrid.

Tier 3 Midfielder

Add: Jose Luis Morales (Levante)

Yes, he failed to convert a penalty kick in his team's loss to Sevilla on Sunday. But hopefully Morales will remain his team's penalty taker, and he does have three goals in five games this season. Also, Levante don't face a particularly difficult week, with games against Valladolid (away) and Alaves (home).

Avoid: Markel Susaeta (Athletic Bilbao)

He picked up two yellow cards in the 2-2 draw with Real Betis on Sunday so will be suspended for Athletic's home game against Villarreal on Wednesday. And then they play Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Saturday.

Tier 1 Defender

Add: Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)

His team hasn't had any penalty kicks the past two games, but Ramos nearly scored from open play against Espanyol on Saturday and continues to rack up the fantasy points. In fact, he's second in the overall standings with 88.9, behind only Messi.

Avoid: Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid)

He didn't start against Getafe on Saturday, so he's not a guaranteed starter for both of Atletico's games this week, one of which is against Real Madrid. And Godin is only averaging 5.3 fantasy points per game, ranking him 84th among La Liga defenders.

Tier 2 Defender

Add: Marc Bartra (Real Betis)

A big reason why Real Betis have the top three players in this category, in terms of fantasy points per game, is due to possession. Through five games, Betis have had 66.8 percent of the ball -- only Barca (69.5) and Madrid (69.0) have had more. That means lots of passes completed, which should continue in games against Girona (away) and Leganes (home). I'm going with Bartra, who also popped up with a goal last week.

Avoid: Abdoulaye Ba (Rayo Vallecano)

Ba was issued a straight red card last weekend, so will be suspended for Rayo's games against Real Sociedad and Espanyol.

Goalkeeper

Add: Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Barcelona)

He's way down the list in terms of fantasy points among goalkeepers, having conceded four goals in five games, with only 12 saves. But ter Stegen would have finished second at his position in fantasy points last season, and I like his chances of getting at least one, if not two, clean sheets against Leganes and Athletic Bilbao.

Avoid: Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid)

He would have finished tops in fantasy points last season, ahead of ter Stegen. But he's down the list so far this season as well, and I don't like his clean-sheet chances in at least one game this week, against Real Madrid.

Captain

It has to be Messi. He had at least one goal or assist in 27 of 36 league games last season, so he's not held down very often. You're taking a huge risk if you don't captain him in a double gameweek, especially playing against mediocre opponents.
