Key fantasy football injury outlooks for Week 11

For reference, players may be classified on the team's final injury report of any given week as "questionable (Q)," "doubtful (D)" or "out." Besides the obvious designation of a player being ruled out, "questionable" indicates a player is uncertain to play, while "doubtful" means a player is unlikely to play.

Since the NFL did away with the "probable" designation two years ago, players who are expected to play on Sunday (or Monday) are simply removed from the injury report by the reporting deadline (Friday evening for Sunday games, Saturday afternoon for Monday night games).

For the purposes of this injury-related game preview, players will be grouped by position. Below each player's name, team, injured body part (as listed on the official NFL injury report), official game-status designation and game time (ET), the following elements are included: any known relevant details about the injury, the player's involvement in practice that week and any additional notes to provide context around the player's status.

For anyone seeking more specific details about certain types of injuries, here is an illustrated injury glossary, which you also can find on the right side of the ESPN fantasy home page.

Quarterbacks

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs, foot (off pregame injury report), Monday night

Additional injury details: Added to injury report this week

Practice report: Full Thursday-Saturday

Notes: This appearance of Mahomes' name on the injury report had the potential to induce panic in the fantasy football world ... but that was quickly avoided by his documented full practices daily throughout the week. Mahomes will play Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams in a much-anticipated matchup.

Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers, right shoulder (off pregame injury report), 1 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Added to injury report three weeks ago

Practice report: Limited Wednesday-Thursday; full Friday

Notes: This is how the Panthers manage their veteran players. Limited sessions take place earlier in the week in an effort to protect the health of their star quarterback. So far, it's clearly working.

Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens, right hip (D), 1 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Injured in Week 9 (bye in Week 10)

Practice report: DNP Wednesday-Friday

Notes: Flacco isn't expected to play, but the Ravens are enjoying the mystery surrounding just who will. Despite finishing the game after injuring his right hip two weeks ago on a fall, Flacco was initially on crutches for several days afterward to unload the joint. Although the team has not offered specifics regarding his injury, the fact that there was even a hint that he could play earlier this week indicates it was not considered season-threatening.

That isn't to say this won't be an ongoing issue for Flacco for the remainder of the season. His activity going forward will be something to monitor, and even if he is able to return to action in the near future, how well he holds up week to week is yet to be determined. In the meantime, Lamar Jackson missed Thursday's practice with an illness but returned Friday to a full session. Robert Griffin III was the only healthy quarterback Thursday, the most important day of the week for pregame practice. The Ravens might employ both Jackson and Griffin against the Bengals on Sunday, with Jackson getting the start, per ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley.

Running backs

James Conner, Pittsburgh Steelers, concussion (off pregame injury report), 1 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Injured in Week 10

Practice report: Full Wednesday-Friday

Notes: When Conner returned to full practice Wednesday after suffering a concussion last Thursday night, it signaled a likely return to action Sunday -- as long as there were no setbacks. His consecutive full practices and clearance from an independent neurological consultant confirmed his availability, as did his removal from the pregame injury report.

Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals, knee (off pregame injury report), 1 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Added to injury report this week; Arthroscopic surgery after Week 2 game injury; Returned to action in Week 5

Practice report: Limited Thursday; full Friday

Notes: When Mixon was a late addition to the practice injury report, there was genuine concern as to whether this was something significant enough to impact his availability in Week 11. That concern evaporated as soon as Mixon turned in a full practice Friday and was removed from the pregame injury report.

Adrian Peterson, Washington Redskins, shoulder (off pregame injury report), 1 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Injured in Week 3; Shoulder injured in Week 5

Practice report: Limited Wednesday; Full Thursday-Friday

Notes: Peterson continues to be the dominant running back for Washington despite his lingering presence on the injury report. He told reporters he is feeling better and is back to bench pressing (a significant indicator of progress for someone who dislocated his shoulder several weeks ago). As Chris Thompson remains out with a rib injury, Peterson continues to be the clear favorite for running back duties.

Doug Martin, Oakland Raiders, hip (off pregame injury report), 4:05 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Injured in Week 9

Practice report: Full Wednesday-Friday (Note: Oakland conducted walk-throughs on Thursday and Friday, so the practice report is an estimation.)

Notes: Martin must be feeling be better because he was listed as a full participant daily this week (as opposed to last week when he was limited daily). The injury hasn't kept him off the field, and he is again expected to play when the Raiders face the Cardinals.

Peyton Barber, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ankle/shoulder (off pregame injury report), 1 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Injured in Week 7

Practice report: Limited Wednesday-Thursday; Full Friday

Notes: Ronald Jones continues to be sidelined with a hamstring injury, and Barber continues to handle the primary running back carries. Barber had two limited practices this week instead of one; perhaps that is the result of having a shoulder issue to go along with the ankle ailment he has been nursing for several weeks. The bottom line here is that the Buccaneers are confident enough in his availability to remove him from the pregame injury report. Fantasy players have to hope for more productivity this week against a generous Giants run defense.

Royce Freeman, Denver Broncos, ankle (off pregame injury report), 4:05 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Injured in Week 7

Practice report: Limited Wednesday; full Thursday-Friday

Notes: After sitting out Weeks 8 and 9 with a high ankle sprain followed by a bye week, Freeman is ready to return to action. His back-to-back full practices and removal from the pregame injury report suggest he will not be limited in his return. The challenge for fantasy players lies more in not knowing just how the running back duties will be divided. Phillip Lindsay is still likely to see the bulk of the work, although Freeman's presence -- with some mixing in of Devontae Booker -- is likely to cut into that load.

Kapri Bibbs, Washington Redskins, shoulder (off pregame injury report), 1 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Injured in Week 8

Practice report: Full Wednesday-Friday

Notes: Bibbs once again participated in full sessions daily this week and is off the pregame injury report. As Chris Thompson remains sidelined with a rib injury, Bibbs remains in line for a passing-down role, albeit a low-volume one.

Tight ends

Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers, foot (off pregame injury report), 1 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Refractured foot in Week 1

Practice report: Limited Wednesday-Thursday; full Friday

Notes: This is the routine practice pattern for Olsen this season since his return from a foot injury. It appears to be working, as he continues to be a regular target for Cam Newton. Last week was the first time in a month that he did not find the end zone. Despite the Lions' ability to defend well against tight ends, fantasy players will be hoping for a return to the end zone for Olsen.

Wide receivers

Adam Thielen, Minnesota Vikings, back/calf (off pregame injury report), 8:20 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Added to injury report this week

Practice report: Limited Wednesday-Friday

Notes: When the No. 1 wide receiver in fantasy this week showed up on the injury report coming off a bye, with a kickoff late Sunday night, there was sure to be much hand wringing. It turns out the wringing of hands was not necessary, as Thielen was removed from the team's pregame injury report Friday. The calf issue appeared to crop up during the team's last game (Week 9), and it's possible the limited work during the week was largely precautionary. Thielen is definitely set to play, but the hope is that neither of these ailments will limit him in any way.

DeAndre Hopkins, Houston Texans, foot (off pregame injury report), 1 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Injured in Week 2

Practice report: Limited Wednesday-Friday

Notes: Hopkins has been on the injury report since Week 2, so there was no reason to expect things would change after the bye week. The good news is that not only has he played in every game, he has also been consistently outstanding. Look for more of the same in Week 11.

Keenan Allen, Los Angeles Chargers, hip/finger (off pregame injury report), 4:05 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Added to injury report this week

Practice report: Limited Thursday-Friday

Notes: No one likes to see a late addition to the injury report, especially when it's a key member of your starting fantasy football roster. When Allen appeared on the report Thursday there was little information as to the nature of the dual injuries that landed him there. On Friday, he remained limited, but the Chargers' removal of his name from the pregame injury report gave everyone a reason to exhale. Allen is expected to play as usual Sunday.

Stefon Diggs, Minnesota Vikings, rib (off pregame injury report), 8:20 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Injured in Week 8

Practice report: Full Wednesday-Friday

Notes: Diggs suffered a rib injury in Week 8 but managed to finish out the game. He then sat out Week 9, a wise move considering he was still experiencing significant discomfort and the team was headed for a bye. The rest appears to have been beneficial, as Diggs was a full participant all week and was cleared for game action on Friday afternoon.

Sammy Watkins, Kansas City Chiefs, foot (Q), Monday night

Additional injury details: Injured in Week 9

Practice report: Limited Thursday; DNP Friday-Saturday

Notes: Watkins was seen limping in the locker room after the Chiefs' Week 9 game and sat out Week 10 with a foot injury. When he returned to limited practice Wednesday, it appeared he might be heading toward a return. On Thursday, however, Watson was downgraded to a non-participant in practice and remained out Saturday. With the back-to-back missed practices and the team listing him as questionable, Watkins is a risky option for fantasy players who likely can't afford to wait until Monday night.

Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ankle (Q), 1 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Added to injury report this week

Practice report: DNP Wednesday-Thursday; full Friday

Notes: Godwin appeared to suffer the injury late in the Week 10 contest -- after posting 103 yards -- and he was held out of practice early in the week. His Friday full practice indicates he made significant progress, but the questionable tag leaves his status uncertain. The good news for fantasy players is that this is an early game; there will be options if Godwin is not able to go.

Mohamed Sanu, Atlanta Falcons, hip (off pregame injury report), 1 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Injured in Week 4; aggravated in Week 6

Practice report: DNP Wednesday; limited Thursday; full Friday

Notes: This has essentially been the same status for Sanu for multiple weeks. He continues to play through the injury and will do so again this week.

Keke Coutee, Houston Texans, hamstring (Q), 1 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Original injury in preseason; appeared on injury report again in Week 5

Practice report: Limited Wednesday-Friday

Notes: Coutee has not played in a game since aggravating his hamstring injury in Week 7, but his status has improved somewhat this week. After turning in limited practices daily, Coutee was listed on the pregame injury report as questionable, with coach Bill O'Brien saying he has a chance to play. While his status will likely come down to a game-time decision, consider that in the team's last game (Week 9), Coutee was ruled out early when he did not travel with the team. Since he made the trip this week, it would seem there is increased likelihood he takes the field. Fantasy players should be sure to check pregame inactives to confirm.

Mike Williams, Los Angeles Chargers, groin (off pregame injury report), 4:05 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Added to injury report this week

Practice report: Limited Thursday; full Friday

Notes: Like his teammate Keenan Allen, Williams was a late addition to the injury report this week. There was no indication of the severity of the groin ailment that caused Williams to take limited reps in practice. Apparently it wasn't serious, given that he returned to full participation by Friday. In addition, Williams was removed from the pregame injury report, indicating his availability for Sunday's contest against the Broncos.

John Ross, Cincinnati Bengals, groin (Q), 1 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Injured in Week 4; DNP Weeks 5-6; Aggravated injury in Week 7; DNP Week 8; Returned in Week 10

Practice report: Limited Wednesday-Thursday; full Friday

Notes: The soft tissue injuries are an ongoing challenge for Ross. This injury originated in Week 4 and he has been in and out since. Most recently, Ross returned to action last week and seemed to get through the game without incident. His questionable status, however, shows he is not at full health. He did manage a full practice session on Friday, generally a favorable indicator for playing status. Fantasy players are advised to confirm via pregame inactives before inserting him into the lineup.

A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals, toe (D), 1 p.m. ET

Additional injury details: Added to injury report in Week 10; DNP Week 10

Practice report: DNP Wednesday-Friday

Notes: News of Green's toe injury actually surfaced during the team's bye week (Week 9) when he underwent evaluation for his latest big toe injury. The expectation all along was that he would miss multiple weeks -- and that includes this week. The doubtful tag is an improvement over last week when he was ruled out Friday, but this is still an "unlikely to play" designation. Green did do some increased rehab work, and the sense is that he is making some gains, but given that he did not participate in any form of practice, he is not ready to return to game action.
