Yihong Peng, the 30-year-old brother of Team Liquid AD carry Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng, was arrested on Saturday in Orange County, California, and charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed to death their mother and severely injured their father, according to a statement from the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
"This weekend I received some terrible news," Doublelift said in a Twitlonger post Sunday. "My older brother attacked both of my parents with a knife. As a result of this attack, my mom passed away and my dad was seriously hurt and is now recovering in hospital.
"I'm still processing this news and joining up with my dad and little brother to make sure they're ok and the proper arrangements are being made. I'll likely be quiet on social media while I work through this. I hope you all understand and support me as you always have in the past."
Police responded to an incident at the family's home in San Juan Capistrano after a neighbor reported seeing Yihong Peng on the street with a knife, around 10:30 p.m. PT Friday.
Orange County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene and found Peng's mother, Wei Ping Shen, 59, with a fatal stab wound. Peng's father, Guojon Peng, was found critically injured and transported to a local hospital. Guojon Peng is expected to survive, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
"Deputies arrived to the scene within one minute and located two victims, both with stab wounds, and observed the suspect attempting to flee the scene," the sheriff's statement said. "Following a short pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody without incident. A knife was recovered at the scene."
Yihong Peng was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail on the murder charge and is currently being held on $1 million bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Police say they are currently investigating the motive behind the incident.
Doublelift is one of the most popular League of Legends players in North America and had one of the best moments of his Spring Split on Saturday. The 24-year-old was named player of the series after Liquid defeated Echo Fox and earned a slot in the league's final for the first time in the organization's history.
Team Liquid is scheduled to appear in the North American League Championship Series Spring Split Final in Miami on April 8.
