Moira is Overwatch's new healer hero

esports

Overwatch has since its release cornered the market in the hero shooter genre, and proven to be incredibly popular. A number of hero have been added since, but it was only at this year's Blizzcon that Blizzard introduced a second healer.

"Moira's biotic abilities enable her to contribute healing or damage in any crisis. While Biotic Grasp gives Moira short-range options, her Biotic Orbs contribute longer-range, hands-off damage and healing," Blizzard wrote on her character sheet.

It added that Moira also has the ability to get out of harm's way quickly. "She can also Fade to escape groups or remain close to allies in need of support. Once she's charged Coalescence, Moira can save multiple allies from elimination at once or finish off weakened enemies."

Her long-range beam that heals allies might be welcome news for players who opted to function as the healer with Mercy, as she recently got nerfed to only resurrecting one player at a time.

Previously Mercy could resurrect up to five players in one go. In terms of her backstory, her full name is Moira O'Deorain and her primary occupation is a geneticist from Ireland. "Equal parts brilliant and controversial, scientist Moira O'Deorain is on the cutting edge of genetic engineering, searching for a way to rewrite the fundamental building blocks of life," reads a line from her sheet.

The full reveal of Moira at Blizzcon is in stark contrast to how Sombra was announced.

Through a number of clues, puzzles and alternate reality games, Sombra was tease by Blizzard for a very long time.

The suspicion is that players grew tired of the teasing - wanting rather that heroes are revealed once-off. Blizzard also announced new skins, highlight intros and emotes, as well as a new hybrid map.
