SKT breezes through MVP

esports

SK Telecom T1 breezed to a 2-0 sweep of MVP on Sunday in Seoul, South Korea to wrap up Week 5 of League of Legends Champions Korea.

SKT (9-1, 18-5 match record) were systematic with the heavy pick composition drafted in the first game of this series. Right out the gate, SKT came up with three kills before eight minutes had passed, with mid laner Lee "Faker" Seong-hyuk using his signature LeBlanc to secure a solo kill. By 11 minutes, SKT had parlayed its kill advantage into the first tower and a 3,000-gold lead. While MVP (2-8, 4-17 match record) tried to get into a groove with a couple kills in a quick teamfight, SKT immediately fired back with two more kills of its own. While the game did drag on for longer than it perhaps should have, it was clear that SKT was solely in control of the game and was simply taking a cautious pace to minimize its mistakes. One final Baron at 42 minutes and SKT finally pushed for the win in which it didn't give up a single tower.

Just about the only difference with Game 2 was that SKT drafted a straight-up teamfight composition as opposed to the pick composition from the first game. Other than that, it was almost a carbon copy. Faker, this time on Taliyah, started off with the first blood on a textbook roam up to the top lane, giving SKT an early advantage. This advantage translated into two turrets for SKT by the time 12 minutes had passed. Before even securing the Baron, SKT had amassed an almost 5,000-gold lead. Once it secured that Baron, however, the end result was but an inevitability. The reigning World Champions again respected its competition despite having complete control over the game, leading to another drawn out game. MVP showed signs of life with top laner Kang "ADD" Gun-mo's Jax picking up a triple kill to prolong the game, but SKT came right back and aced MVP to wrap up the 38-minute win.

Both SKT and MVP will participate in Rift Rivals this week before returning to domestic action the week after, where SKT will face Samsung Galaxy on Thursday, July 13 at 7 a.m. ET and MVP will take on Longzhu Gaming on Tuesday, July 11 at 4 a.m. ET.
