OMG leads Group B with win over Newbee

esports

OMG showed why it remains on top of Group B in the League of Legends Pro League, taking a 2-0 sweep over Newbee to kick off Week 3, Day 4 on Sunday in Shanghai.

It's hard to believe that Newbee (2-3, 6-8 match record) could've possibly lost Game 1 as it had one of the best starts a midgame pick composition could ask for. Mid laner Lei "Corn" Wen's Talon popped off early on, securing a 4/0/1 KDA (kills/deaths/assists) at just eight minutes into the match. Newbee punished OMG's late game scaling composition with apparent ease, collapsing like a pack of wolves to slaughter lone OMG members. After a lull in the midgame, though, OMG came firing back, using the time it bought to put gold on key members such as mid laner Xie "Icon" Tian-Yu's Kassadin. In a crazy teamfight that finished 5-for-1 for OMG, Icon picked up a triple kill as OMG secured a 28-minute Baron, taking control from Newbee's stunned hands. With an Elder Dragon going OMG's way, it demolished much of Newbee's defenses, allowing Icon to splitpush his way into Newbee's base while the rest of OMG picked up a 5-for-0 ace to close out the Game 1 win in 46 minutes.

Newbee again put its eggs in an early-midgame pick composition, while OMG (5-0, 10-2 match record) put its faith in late game teamfighting yet again. OMG started off strong with first blood at five minutes followed by a chaotic 3-for-0 teamfight, but Newbee's incredible pick potential gave it room to breathe in the midgame. Picking up a decent lead, Newbee went for an attempted Baron kill at 33 minutes to try and gain a decisive edge over OMG, but OMG jungler Hu "Jiekou" Zi-Xiang's Elise stole the Baron while Icon's Cassiopeia flirted with death several times before pulling out a huge quadrakill in the 5-for-1 ace. Utterly distraught, Newbee couldn't seem to muster the energy to defend its Nexus as OMG swarmed into the base, taking Game 2 in 36 minutes to close out the series sweep. Newbee next takes to the Rift to battle I May on Friday at 5 a.m. ET, while OMG squares off against a surging DAN Gaming on Saturday at 8 a.m. ET.
